Save a Mutt: Why Mixed Breed Dogs Make Great Pets

While we want people to know that 25% of dogs in shelters are purebreeds, it’s also important to understand the value of a mixed breed dog.

Purebreed dogs can surprise you. I’m sure you’ve met a lab that refuses to retrieve, a spaniel that is afraid of water, or a beagle with a wimpy howl. If you’re getting a purebred puppy for their common attributes, these behaviors aren’t guaranteed.  However, if you meet a 1 year old mutt, that is currently living with a foster, you’ll have a true snapshot of this dog’s energy level and personality.

Best of all, mixed breeds are one of a kind – no cookie cutter grooming styles, no standards to live up to. They are unique, and often stand out in a crowd!

Help us share the value of mutts! Here are two shareable #SaveAMutt Facts:

#SaveAMutt fact! Adult mixed breeds sometimes adjust more easily to a variety of households, in contrast to purebreds that tend to be bred for specific behaviors, like herding or hunting. Join the #SaveAMutt movement by #SaveOurShelter – tag a mutt friend in this post!
